Monkees Night

The idea was to do an all Monkees night at Wormtown Weds.
There had been a series of shows, at The Lucky Dog, called
the Green Street Music Series. They featured local luminaries
backed by a house band. Artists showcased were The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones, The Who, and hits of the sixties and seventies.
I decided to do the same with WW. We put together a backing
band (Mr. Natural and The Selections) consisting of,
Pete Zolli -bass, backing vocal, Greg Sullivan – drums,
Keith Prescott – percussion, Deb Beaudry – backing vocal,
Geof Blake – rehearsal vocalist, Dave Menard – keyboards, sax
and Roger LaVallee – guitar, theramin. I played guitar and sang.
We asked a bunch of local folks to sign up for a song. Some were
no brainers, like Scott Ricuitti doing I'm a Believer. The Monkees set
would last about an hour and a half and then various other bands
would do some Monkees covers. We even dragged our tympani
down to the show to accompany James Keyes performing
Randi Scouse Git. It was a splendid time and for me
the last major high point for Wormtown Wednesday.

Mick Lawless asked me to play bass in a tribute to
“Michael Nesmith and other fine American songwriters.”
For the next eight years I became a hired gun.
Mixed bag, 'nuf said. I did get to play with Mike Castellana.
Greg and I enjoyed being a live rhythm section.
