and The Cool Beans Nexus

Spring 2002

From Google Maps.
Location has been demolished.

We (snakes & ladders) began hanging out at the original Cool Beans,
a coffee shop located next to The Lucky Dog.Michael Thibodeau
played there a bunch and later on hosted the open mic.
We struck up a friendship. It was also where The Overtones gigged
(among other venues) and Better Friends Than Lovers
(they were underage at the tine and couldn't really hang anywhere else.)
There was coffee, music, poetry and “revolution in the air.”
Other connections were Jentri and
Jason Macierowski of
Paper December Orchestra. Jason also played in Suicide While Driving.

November 16
The Night We Emptied the Palladium.

So we got suckered into doing a showcase for Lloyd Plumstead.
He was a local promoter who always seemed to be surrounded
by young lads. There were rumors. I stay in my own hula hoop.
So we get these tickets for the show. That's our pay. Couldn't sell
a single fucking one of those things. The night of the show
we played acoustically at Cool Beans. Great crowd, great response
everything go-roovy. Then we load up and head over to the Palladium.
It was snowing, it was bitch  finding a place to park and loading in.
Snakes & Ladders were last on the bill and we waited.
The third to last band were on, punk rock, young kids, audience is roaring.
I figure this may not be too bad. Punk band comes off stage,
rap band goes on and there's a mass exodus of rockers out the door.
“Ru-roh Rorge.” The rappers came off and we go out. We started playing
and every single last rap fan split. We cleared the entire joint, except for venue staff
and Michael Thibodeau, our one lone audience member.
Bless his soul. We played a few tunes for him and said "fuck this."

Yep, we cleared it.
