Automatic There |
Roundabout early 1984, we had the bright idea of making a vinyl EP. We previously released some cassettes and wanted take a step up, to be real live little boys. So in the spring/summer of 1984, we asked Danny Kasnitz to help out, and booked some studio time. My then spouse and our manager,Cathi, donated funds for the recording and manufacturing. |

That spring, we demoed the entire e.p. (except for A Two Minute Warning.) We wanted to have this together. Recording began in July at Splice of Life. We moved quickly through basics and overdubs. It was humid, they had a TV in the reception area, I remember watching the summer Olympics between takes. Recording was completed and we mixed in August. All that was left was to send it off for Mastering and manufacturing.

We released our vinyl prize in the fall of 1984. Initially Dave committed to fund the advertising campaign. That failed to materialize. Without any real promotion, Automatic There was doomed. We did some gigs, got some decent college airplay, a few solid reviews, sold a few discs and... That was as far as it all went. Sidebar: In 1993, I made friends with a fella who delivered mail and had his own studio. I visited his place. In his control room was a copy of this EP. I have no idea how it got there. Neither did he. |
