 March/April

Because of a major windfall (me Grandmother's estate)
I was able to invest in some new gear.
Charlie offered to build new a new studio desk
and rebuild the entire room. And a new Toad Hall was reborn.

April 3

After some gigs and a bit of rehearsal John, Greg and I tracked demos
for an album. Little did I know due to various impedance
and distractions, the record would take a year and half to make.

April 16
The Who Gig

I get a call in the afternoon. Michael Thibodeau:
You wanna play bass on a Quick One by The Who,
tonight at Ralph's? Ed Barnett's playing drums and
John Donovan is on guitar. (Note - John and Ed may do the most
authentic Pete/Keith musical impersonation ever. I thought, why not?
Found a copy of the tune (the R n R Circus version) and ran down
to the studio. I already knew the song sequence pretty well,
but to be sure played through it five times to make sure.
That night we had a blast, It was fun as hell. At the end we
ran through a couple of stones songs and one of Thibb's tunes.

The Last Episode of Cheap-TV

Six months after the “last” episode of Cheap TV, Jim and I decided
to do produce one more. We committed to Better Friends Than Lovers.
We couldn't use Hop-TV (the show had been banned) so we asked
Andy Anderson if we could use Milbury Cable.
He said “ok” (thanks Andy) and so we made the plan and shot the show.

Saturday June 7th

Michael Thibodeau & The Bees-Knees
at The Lion's Den

So The Bees Knees got a gig in NY. But John Donovan, their bassist,
was away for a business thing. So… they ask me. And we drove
for four and a half hours, get the gear loaded in only to find out
the club back-lined drum kit has no cymbals. “cymbals cost a fifty bucks to use.”
Fucking bastards. Fortunately the headlining act let us use their cymbals.
After the show I wandered around the Manhattan. It had been almost
a couple of years since 9.11, But you could still feel the aftershock.
Later when we went to go home, a drunk Eddie (guitarist) Barnett
and a drunk Gabe (hanger-on) Rollins started going off about "we should party
and hang out all night." Joe (drummer) Giotta suggested that they could
catch a train back to Worcester in the morning. “Pull over!!!” Michael demurred,
and the boys leaped out of the van into the NY night.
We went home. Yeah, they had a story to tell when they got back.
