So Pisces (Luke Adler - drums, Greg Pordon - guitar, voice, Alex Craven - bass, mostly absent, and myself on rhythm guitar) was formed, rehearsed briefly and had it's first lineup change. Luke was out, Dave Jutras was in. He wasn't bad (marching band in high school.) We ended up rehearsing in the boonies of West Concord. Like an idiot, I left my ax at our practice space. After a few rehearsals, my guitar was stolen. (For long time I thought it was one of the band guys who took it. It wasn't.) Then they threw me out of the band, most likely because I wasn't very good. My dad helped me acquire a second, used L6-S (after making me sign loan agreement.) |
Enter Shadow I had seen them play at The Place. And I had known Dan Kasnitz (bass, vocals) he was a friend of a friend. But I would not connect with them until Eric Bartlett (guitar, vocals) was walking out of Mr. Ireland's philosophy class as I was entering for history. Eric was carrying a sitar case. "What's that?" He showed me. From then on we met in the courtyard between classes to smoke cigarettes (yes, you could smoke on campus. It was they permissive seventies) and talk guitarguitarguitar. m |

Winter 75/76 Greg Sullivan was one of Dan's friends. When Shadow gigged, middle school dances mostly, I did sound, Greg ran lights, if there were any. We mostly eyed each other with suspicion. I knew him from school (like Eric he was one grade ahead of me.) He hung with The Place folks, who had no use for me. He will become very very important in our story. |
