 ENTER THE WOODROSE

Fall

Eventually I too dropped out of school.
When Mick got thrown out of his house,
he began staying at my place (me mum had a kind heart.)
By chance I bumped into Greg, I asked him
if he wanted to hang out and maybe jam.
There were amps and a drum kit in my room
(Greg says it was Dave Eisan's but I have no recall.)
So he, Mick and I played some stuff.
Between the three of us something clicked
and we became a band.

First recording of Woodrose ever

Winter 77/78
Woodrose Mk. I

So Micky brought home Steve Cormier
(they both worked together) and we had a singer.
A fella named John Eno (worked with Greg)
rented some space in my attic, then madness began.
We did a lot of, ahem, experimenting*
We drove my mother, the neighborhood
and my landlord crazy.
And we made a bunch of freaky music.

*see Ken Kesey etc.

Spring/Summer 1978

We needed a name.
I wanted Captains of Destiny,
but that was summarily vetoed.
Eventually we settled on Woodrose,
after the hallucinogenic plant.
This would prove apt as we spent most of that summer
playing psychedelic house parties.
There was lots of crazy to go around
John became an ancillary member of the band,
occasionally playing percussion.

Fall/Winter, 1978

Steve Cormier got the paranoids
(truth be told, he had good reason.)
He took off, John Eno and then Mick moved out.
I had a serious breakdown. Things fell apart.
