The Official History of Instant Dogma

(Woodrose, snakes & ladders, Freak Music,
Punk Rock Treehouse and everything else.)

Lewis Beers' Basement

Spring

So Woodrose had many requests.
Unfortunately, those requests were to stop playing,
from other tenants and the landlord.
So we found ourselves sans rehearsal space.
Into the picture comes old friend Lewis Beers.
Lewis was in his early thirties and a smooth talker hippie type.
We played a party at his place in Acton.
He was moving to Hudson and asked us if we wanted
to rent space in his basement.
Not being fools we said “yeah.”

Woodrose Mk. II
Enter Dave Smith

Steve's van crapped out, so he was hitchhiking, a lot
(so was I for that matter, no money, no car.)
One day Dave picked him up, and brought him to rehearsal.
We were just starting to get it together with the original stuff
and he wanted in. His guitar playing added body
and he brought a sense of focus.

We rehearsed in Lewis Beers' cellar through most
of that summer until, due to a serious indiscretion
on my part, we got thrown out.

Fall

Next came The Pondo. The Pondo was a rec room
attached to a house on the outskirts of Marlboro.
We rehearsed there throughout the fall, until the building
was eventually sold off and demolished.
It was there we acquired The Rude Crew,
which consisted of Rick Maenpaa,
Mike Martin, Paul Mudgett, Kevin Wirtz, Barry
(whose name I cannot recall) and occasionally Billy Lyons.
These were friends and roommates of various members of the band.
Yes, there are recordings and if you are that masochistic,
email me. I'll hook you in.
